WHATS NEW!!!!!!

The One that Got Away
By: Grace Duguay
China Daily

Great Wall--Chen-Chang Ju was working on the Great Wall of China until he ran away one night, and only two people saw. A guy working on the Great Wall of China got away. Many bad things can happen with this one person missing. Including him telling people on the other side of the wall how to get around the wall to help them concur Qin and over throw Qin. This all happened at the Great Wall in 221 B.C.E. We found out why Chen-Chang had left the great wall and that was because, he did not agree with Qin and did not want to put up with this cruel back breaking job for emperor Qin.

Emperor Qin wanted a wall that would protect china from enemies. They started to build it in 221 B.C.E. Qin had 300,000 workers working on the Great Wall. Tens of thousands of them died, Chen-Chang Ju not being one of them. In the end the wall didn’t work as well as they wanted it to work.

What I Think

Emperor Qin wants to make the great wall because he thought it would keep out enemies.  The Great Wall of China is a bad idea to build and it will not benefit China’s people. Three hundred thousand workers worked on the wall and tens of thousands of them died.  Some people were just taken from their houses and had no choice.  The great wall will not keep out all of the enemies because the enemies are smart and they will get around it. The money they are going to spend on building wall should be used to make things that are needed.  A stronger army should be formed.  The canals and road need more attention and will help us more.
Some people think that the great wall was a good idea. A worker said, “This is a great idea because I get paid more money to supervise building the wall.” But so many people were killed it is like the wall the wall is going to build it for no reason because every one building it they almost all died and it does not actually keep people out. It was bad that they made this wall because it won’t have very many people to try to protect.

A Day With The Host Family

A Day With My Host Family On The Farm

The family I visited lived in China and they were farmers.  This means that there life was hard.

At the beginning of the day we woke up at 6A.M during the week and we had a small breakfast of rice and eggs.  We would go into the barn at 6 and collect the eggs.   The mother would cook the eggs over the fire.  Our clothes were very dirty and big because we worked on the farm.

They worked on the fields and planted crops like rice and vegetables. We would take small brakes to just have some water and a snack so we did not get to hungry or thirsty. For lunch we would all go into he house and sit down together and have a small lunch. We would eat rice with vegetables for our lunch.

At the end of the day we all clean up at our own times and we sit together at the same time every night 6pm on the dot and have a nice family dinner. After we have dinner we would all go to bed in the small room with one another. It is the worst when some one is sick because it means we may all be sick and it will set every thing back a day on the farm and that’s no good if u are trying to get things done by a dead line coming up.

The Qin Dynasty Map

The Map Of The Qin Dynasty

This is the Qin Dynasty in Ancient China. Emperor Qin was the first Emperor of the Qin Dynasty. This map shows the Great Wall of China after it was built, and the root of where they built it was along the border. This map also shows the capital Xianyang that Emperor  Qin made to unify China. The Qin Dynasty lasted from 221-207 B.C. It ended after Emperor Qin passed away from unknown causes. The Qin Dynasty was on the coast and had four major rivers running through it, which allowed for easy traveling.

The Secret Interview

Interview with Cho-Che Young

Q:  What’s your opinion on the Great Wall being made?

A:   I don’t think it is a good plan, me being a wife and all.  My husband was sent to go work on it.  I don’t think these people should be put through this hard cruel work done by force.

Q:  Did your husband survive?

A:  Yes he did.  His name is Chin-Chang Young.  You may know him as the one that got away.  He ran away as he was eing forced to work.  Chen-Chang ran away in the middle of the night.  He was spotted by a near by guard named Yen-Li.

Q:  How did he get away if he was spotted by Yen-Li?

A:  He always was working near that guard he said.  It turns out that the guard is against the wall being built also.  So when he spotted him, the gauged said “save yourself and tell the stories”.  He is still too shy to talk about the stories but he did save himself.

Q:  How could your husband still be alive knowing the punishments Emperor Qin may give him?

A:  He has to move around a lot so he doesn’t get spotted.  We have to move as well.  I am happy Chin-Change ran away because we get to spend more Family time together.

Q:  Would you have done the same thing your husband did?

A:  No, because he is really brave.  I don’t think I would have been able to walk that distance and carry the heavy bricks and cement.
